      William Clayton was born in the state of New Jersey some where not far from Trentown in the year of August the 10th 1796. His fathers name was Zebulon Clayton and served in the Revolution War and was Maried about the close of the war to Miss Mary Gorden. He lived at home on the farm till he was twenty two years old then he went to Allegheny County Pennsylvania with his brother David Clayton or his sister Mary Hall her husbands name was John Hall. I think he came with his sister they lived up the Morning Gehela (possibly Monongahela River) river about 10 miles bove Pittsburgh. He had two brothers and two sisters Mary Hall and Elizabeth Scoby. Father was Maried to Margaret Richey on the 24 of March 1825 when he bot a small farm fifteen miles north west from Pittsburgh west of the Allegheny River he farmed thar till the spring of 1840 in March 4th 1840 he took a steamboat at Pittsburgh and landed in Beardstown, Illinois on the 12th of the same month.

      he lived on the old uncle John Ritchey farm the first farmer and raised a crop there in fall he bott the farm where we lived he lived there as long as he kept hous him self and most of the time (unreadable) ___ ____ till he died at our hous Aug. 31st 1880
      Margaret Richey was born September 27th 1806 was married to William Clayton March 24th 1825 her fathers name was Samuel Richey he moved from the Monongahala River to Rushville, Ill the fall of 1829 with his family he was a mill rite by trade. Margaret Richey had three brothers and one sister William and Elizabeth this is we called her ant Betsy Seller, Nathaniel and John ___Richey uncle Wiliam was buried in our family grave yard in fall 1853 and one child in same cemetery. two in Fulton County, Ill. Susan and Hardin Richey no are living. Nathaniel Richey Died at Rock Island, Ill about the year 1842. John Knox (?)Richey was married to.....end of page.
