- From FindaGrave:
Eleazer Stoddard, whose origins have not been found. He m. of record Jan. 1, 1718/9 at Newton, Mass., Susanna Hall, dau. of Andrew Hall and Susanna Capen (John,3 Dea. John,2 Lieut. Barnard,1), b. Jan. 1, 1696/7 at Newton (granddaughter of the writer's ancestors.)
Eleazer was previously mistaken (including by the writer) as the son of Daniel Stoddard and Elizabeth Ballard, b. June 8, 1694 at Boston. However, the child b. on that date to the latter couple was a dau. named Elizabeth, multiple versions of the original town record appearing to otherwise give the name as "Elizur, daut'r of."
Eleazer was residing at Newton when included in a 1726 record of a town highway between the Newton/Watertown and the Newton/Dedham town lines toward the later town line. During the 1740s he was taxed as a property owner at Dedham.
Eleazer died intestate before May 29, 1755 at Ashford, the date of his estate inventory in the Pomfret Probate District of Windham County, Conn. Three other records exist in the probate record. On June 3, 1755 the widow Susanna and son Ebenezer of Ashford, together with son David of Dudley, Mass. as Surety, gave bond for administration of the estate. On June 19, 1755 a separate valuation of land owned by Eleazer in Dudley, Mass. was returned valued at £120, but no record in the Mass. Land Records provides evidence of such ownership. Finally, on Mar. 6, 1759 the account of administration was filed with the probate court.
Eleazer Stoddard and Susanna Hall had eight children, the first six of record at Newton, Mass. with the two youngest of both birth and baptism record at Dedham, Mass.:
• i. Eleazer Stoddard, b. Mar. 11, 1719/20 at Newton; m. May 16, 1744 at Dedham, Mass., Elizabeth Dean, dau. of Joseph Dean and Mary Faxon, b. Nov. 28, 1717 at Dedham (the writer's ancestors.) Seven children of the family.
• ii. Ebenezer Stoddard, b. Mar. 8, 1721/2 at Newton, d. July 2, 1806 at Pomfret, Conn. (g.s.); m. Jan. 21, 1747/8 (Hampton, Conn. Chh. Rec.), Anna Stowell, who d. June 20, 1804 at Pomfret (g.s.). Five children of record at Pomfret.
• iii. Phineas Stoddard, b. Feb. 27, 1723/4 at Newton, purportedly d. in June 1819 at Durham, Maine; m. Elizabeth "Betsey" Allen, dau. of Daniel and Mary Allen, b. Dec. 30, 1731 at Pomfret, Conn. Three children recorded at Woodstock, Conn.
• iv. David Stoddard, b. Nov. 27, 1726 at Newton, whose entry at p. 31 of the original Newton Town Book is written as "Dauid Son of Eliezer & Sufanah Stodard born Nouem. 27: 1729." One compilation of the "Stoddard" family at Newton misinterpreted this entry as Daniel, but was subsequently corrected in the Town Book as "David, Daniel a clerical error." In effect, there never were twins David and Daniel Stoddard as inferred by the printed Newton VRs. On an unknown date and place by 1750, David m. Joanna Kingsley, b. Sept. 3 (bp. Oct. 26), 1729 at Windham, Conn., dau. of John Kingsley, Jr. and Elizabeth Bass. Six children b. in Dudley, Mass. and three in Chesterfield, NH.
