    • Horace Powers Hall prepared for college at Marlow and Kimball Union Academies, was a student at Middlebury and Amherst Colleges, became Principal of Marshall Academy in Illinois and served two years.  He was Professor of Latin at Union College, Merom, Indiana and served there for several years.  He became the Principal of the Academy at Pendleton, Indiana.  Her served in the Army for the Union.  He received his honorary degree of Master of Arts from Asbury University. He also lived in Lycomon, Illinois.

      "Horace P. Hall, son of Col. Daniel R. Hall, was born August 5, 1827. He fitted for college at Marlow and Kimball Union Academies. After spending two years at Middletown College, Ct., and another at Amherst College, Mass., he abandoned his studies on account of ill health, and went West. He was for two years Principal of Marshall Academy, Ill., for seven a Professor of Latin in Union College at Merom, Indiana, and is now Principal of the Academy at Pendleton, Indiana. He was for a time connected with the army. In 1863 the Asbury University conferred on him the honorary dregree of Master of Arts."

      Horace P. Hall served in Company F. 21st Indiana Infantry which became the 1st Indiana Heavy Artillery during the Civil War.

      In the 1870 census of Sycamore, IL., Horace is listed as 42 years old born in NH. and Superintendent of Schools; residing with his wife Ellen 43 born NH and their children: Judson H. 10 and Eva R. 4, both children born in Indiana.

      Horace received an Army Invalid Pension for his service in the Civil War. The pension began on April 21, 1897, and following his death, his wife Ellen M. Hall received an Army Widows Pension, beginning on March 23, 1916.

      Horace was born in New Hampshire, the son of David Hall and Anna Powers Hall.

      In the 1910 census of Sycamore, Horace is listed as an 82 year old retired teacher born in NH in 1828, residing with his wife Ellen M. 83 and daughter Eva R. 44.

      Horace died on Feb 25, 1916, at which time he was residing at 327 W. Sycamore St, Sycamore, IL, and was buried in Elmwood Cemetery on Feb 28th. [1]
