    • Philip Lawrence Hall, 87, a lifelong resident of Nashua, died peacefully at his home on Nov. 7, 2016.

      He was the son of the late J. Lawrence and Elizabeth (Alexander) Hall, born in Nashua on July 3, 1929. He attended the Nashua public schools and the University of New Hampshire, graduating in 1951 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mechanical Engineering and a commission in the United States Air Force.

      While serving in the Air Force as instructor in electronic countermeasures at Keesler AFB, Miss., he met and subsequently married Lt. Betty Jane Baldridge USAF of Alexandria, La. After leaving active duty, he remained active in the USAF Reserve with assignments at Grenier AFB, Hanscom AFB, Westover AFB, and at the Pentagon, Washington, D.C., on the Air Staff of Headquarters USAF as Electronics System Staff Officer, retiring as a Lt. Col. after 28 years of active and reserve duty. He was a life member of the Military Officers Association of America and the Reserve Officers Association of the US, and was president and national committeeman for the New Hampshire Department ROA.

      Betty and Phil are the parents of daughter Susanne Grigel and her husband, George, and sons Elliot and wife Marianne, and Charles and his companion, Tracy Hatch. They are the proud grandparents of Hillary Grigel and Katelin Armendariz and her husband, Cesar, Derek Hall and his wife, Gentry, Kathryn Eramo and her husband, Drew, Sarah, Alexander, and Nicholas Hall.
      He was predeceased by his sister, Carolyn Buck.

      Phil had been associated with the J. Lawrence Hall Company since 1954, was a Registered Professional Engineer in New Hampshire with specialties in HVAC and Mechanical Engineering, and belonged to several engineering and business societies. He was a life member of professional societies NSPE, ASHRAE, and RSES. He was extremely well respected in the industry by his peers and his many employees.

      He served as chair of the advisory committee of the New Hampshire Vocational Technical College in Nashua, a governor of the New Hampshire Technical College system, was a member of the Nashua Rotary Club, served as director of Nashua Federal Savings Bank, BayBank, and Bank Boston banks, and a trustee of the Edgewood Cemetery. He had been an active member of the Main Street United Methodist Church and a chancel choir member for many years. He served as director of the United Methodist Foundation of New England.

      Phil's interest in Freemasonry was extensive. He joined the fraternity in 1954 and served as Worshipful Master of Rising Sun Lodge in Nashua in 1967-1969 and as Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of New Hampshire in 1988-1990. He was a member of the Scottish Rite and York Rite bodies and the Shrine in New Hampshire and was coroneted a 33rd degree Scottish Rite Mason in 1976 and became an Active Member of the Supreme Council of the Scottish Rite in 1982. He had served as Deputy for Scottish Rite in New Hampshire and corporate secretary of the Supreme Council Corporation and the National Heritage Museum in Lexington, Mass. He was an Active Emeritus-member of the Supreme Council.

      SERVICES: Visiting hours will be held at the Davis Funeral Home, One Lock St., Nashua, on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. A Masonic Memorial Service will be held at the Main Street United Methodist Church, 154 Main St., Nashua, on Saturday at 2 p.m., followed by a funeral service in his honor at the church. Reverend Richard Cullen will officiate. Friends and family are invited to attend. Interment prayers and burial will be held at Edgewood Cemetery, Nashua, at the convenience of his family. Those planning an expression of sympathy are asked to consider a memorial donation to the Children's Dyslexia Center of Nashua, 200 Main St., Nashua, NH 03060.
