Lois Brundage Baker died on Nov. 27.
She was a writer, photographer, columnist and publicist. She was a lifetime Jr. League member. Before moving to Hillsboro Beach in 1991, Lois and her family lived in Ridgewood. There, she was a founder and board member of the Volunteer Bureau, member of Project Pride, worked with the Jr. League Children's Theatre, The Depot (a women's exchange), Family Counseling board member, FCSA, Red Cross board member and chairperson of "Jazz in the Park" the annual Red Cross fund-raiser.
She wrote a weekly column for the Ridgewood News called "Around Ridgewood," and she volunteered at the Forum School, a program for developmentally disabled children. She was one of the initial collaborators of the Forum Feasts cookbook, which raised over $1 million for the Forum School before it ended publication. She also worked at Becton Dickenson in Archives and was the writer and editor of "The Echo," the newsletter for BD retirees.
Upon arrival in Hillsboro Beach, she joined Horses and the Handicapped, a local riding program for children afflicted by various disabilities. She was a board member, responsible for H&H publicity and fund-raising events. She volunteered as a horse sidewalker, stable mate, speaker and recruiter of volunteers. She continued writing and had articles published in the "Pompano Pelican," and also volunteered to help edit the weekly publication. She penned a sustainer column for the Jr. League of Boca Raton newsletter. She enjoyed doing oral history interviews and taking pictures for the Historical Society of Boca Raton.
She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Joe; her children, Lucy, Chet and Kathy; and her five grandchildren.
