- Joseph Mayer, Sr.
Joseph Mayer, Sr., died at his home, 1405 East Water Street, at 4:30 Friday afternoon; death resulting from a stroke of paralysis which he suffered a week ago Monday.
Mr. Mayer was born in Wurtenberg, Germany. , September 2, 1835. He was married to Magdelene Effinger in 1859. They came to America in 1969 coming directly to Austin. They lived here until 1877, when they moved to Kansas City where they lived for ten years and then returned to Austin which has since been his home. Mrs. Mayer died nine years ago. His daughter Theresa kept house and cared for him after her mother's death.
Mr. Mayer leaves to morn his loss six children, M. J. Mayer of Austin, John C. Mayer of Kansas City, Mrs. Mary Bradbery of San Diego, Cal., Miss Theresa Mayer, Mrs. Susie Glassel and Joseph Mayer, Jr., of Austin. All were present at his bedside except Mr. Bradbury of San Diego when he passed away. Five Children are dead. He is also survived by 20 Grand children, 27 great grand children and on great grandchild.
Mr. Mayer was an honest, hard working man and well thought of by all who knew him.
The funeral will be held at 9 o'clock Monday morning from St. Augustine's Church. Interment will be made in St. Augustine's cemetery.
