Joseph Mayer, 82, died, unexpectedly Wednesday afternoon at St. Olaf Hospital. He resided at 706 N. Oak.
Surviving are two sons, Frederick Mayer, Austin, and Sgt. Joseph Mayer, White Plaines, N.M.; seven daughters, Mrs. Richard Biederman, Mrs. Joseph Safranek, Mrs. Ernest Schradle, Mrs. Lawrence Guckeen, Austin; Mrs. Fred Paulsen, Hollandale; Mrs. Glen Halseth, Portland, Ore.; Mrs. Orville Jumper, Parkdale, Ore.
Funeral services will be held Saturday afternoon.

Joseph Mayer Jr. was born Dec 18, 1873 in Austin, the son of Joseph Mayer and Magdalene Effinger. He attended Austin public schools and spent his entire life in this city.
Mr. Mayer was a member of the Austin Firemen Association and resided at 706 N. Oask. On Oct. 1, 1897, he was united in marriage with Margaret Moje.
He died at 3:42 p.m. Jan. 4, at St. Olaf Hospital after suffering a heart attack. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Jan. 7, at the Mayer Funeral Home, the Rev. Lyndon Schendel officiating Interment was in Oakwood Cemetery.
Mr. Mayer is survived by two sons, Frederick Mayer, Cherry Grove, and Sgt. Joseph Mayer, White Sands, N. M.; seven daughters, Mrs. R H Biedermann, Mrs. Joseph Safranek, Mrs. Ernest Schradle, Mrs. Lawrence Guckeen, Austin; Mrs. Fred Paulsen, Hollandale; Mrs. Glenn Halseth, Portland, Ore.; Mrs. Orville Jumper, Parkdale, Ore.
