Winthrop-Lester "Tib" Alvin Tibbetts, Jr., passed away at Maine General Hospital on September 30, 2010 with his family at his side after a long and courageous battle with cancer.
Tib was born in Winthrop on October 22, 1940, the youngest child of Lester A. and Dorothy Tibbetts.
He attended the Winthrop School system and after finishing high school he went to work for Inmont Corp for 15 years until the plant closed. He then worked construction for a time on several job sites including the Winthrop Middle School. In 1977, Tib joined the Winthrop school system as a custodian, retiring 23 years later.
Tib was an avid outdoorsman and throughout his life enjoyed hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, golf, water-skiing, and a ?friendly? game of pool. When asked about hobbies, he would always reply "cutting wood." He loved NFL football and rarely missed a Patriots game. In his retirement years you could usually find him outdoors enjoying his "toys" which consisted of a backhoe, bulldozer, and his fleet of trucks. He always enjoyed traveling, going to camp at Moosehead, and spending his winters in Florida. He especially enjoyed all the get togethers with friends and family.
He was predeceased by his parents, one sister, Esther Greene, brothers Oral, Richard, Alvin, and Alton, and grandson Jason Marston.
Tib is survived by his wife of 50 years, Sandee Stone; three daughters, Wanda Goodwin and husband David from Gray, Nancy Hebert-Hall and husband Bob from South China, and Toni Marston and husband Brian from Winthrop; grandsons Justin Hebert of Jacksonville FL, PFC Matthew Hebert of Camp Johnson, NC, and Andrew Hall of CT; granddaughter Jamie Marston Olsen and husband PFC James Olsen of Camp Lejeune NC; great granddaughter Oshiana Fay Haines/Olsen; one sister, Themla Luszczki and husband Lucien of Winthrop;two brothers, Lawrence and wife Sandra of Sidney and Earl and wife Sylvia of Hallowell; several nieces and nephews.
