  • Notes
    • From Liz Dinsmoor, December 2013:

"Our Cooke line begins with my mother's father, and my GGrandfather Conway Whittle Cooke. My 2G-Grandfather was James Addison Cooke. My 3G-Grandfather was William Dewey Cooke. My 4G-Grandfather was Milo Cooke.

"Staunton, Virginia, was the home base of these Cooke's. After Milo it gets murkier. I know my GGrandfather use to say we had a cousin on the Mayflower. That would be Francis Cooke. A link to Francis is a Cooke named Henry. He is supposed to be in my direct line. It's believed Henry Cooke came over from England in 1638 and landed in Essex, Mass, and lived as a butcher in Salem. There is some dispute as to who Henry's father was. It's a mystery my mother would like an answer to, but so far, after extensive genealogical research by other families, there are only educated guesses."
