  • Notes
    • From FindaGrave:

British Aristocracy. 7th Duke of Marlborough.

Born in Garboldisham Hall, Garboldisham, Norfolk, the son of George Spencer-Churchill, 6th Duke of Marlborough and Lady Jane Stewart.

He was educated at Eton and Oxford before serving as a member of parliament for Woodstock from 1840 to 1845 and again from 1847 to 1857 when he succeeded to the Dukedom.

He served as Lord President of the Council in Lord Derby's 1867 government, and then in Benjamin Disraeli's 1868 government. He served as Lord Lieutenant of Ireland from 1876 to 1880 and as a Privy Councilor, and was created a Knight of the Garter.

He married Lady Frances Anne Emily Vane and the couple had eleven children. Their third son and fifth child, Lord Randolph Henry Spencer Churchill, became a prominent Conservative politician in his own right and was also the father of Sir Winston Churchill.
