- HALL, Sumner E. - Funeral services for Sumner E. Hall, aged 76, who died at his farm home just north of Bentonville at 6 o'clock Thursday morning, December 15th, 1932 following an illness of two years, were held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the Church of the Nazarene, conducted by the pastor, Rev. W.O. Felts. Burial was in the Bentonville cemetery.
Mr. Hall was born near Hartford, Conn. on June 12th, 1856.
He was married in 1881 to Miss Mary Conningham. She died June 30th, 1924. To them were born nine children, all of whom survive their father.
Mr. Hall and other members of his family came to Bentonville from Dalhart, Texas in 1919.
He was married here on October 6th, 1925 to Mrs. J.B. Sommars of Bentonville who survives him.
The six sons and three daughters surviving Mr. Hall are Lewis Hall of Sedan, N.M.; William of Lawrence, Kansas; Frank of Dalhart, Texas; Arthur of Boon, Iowa; Water of Pueblo, Col. and Vernon Hall of Bentonville; Mrs. Edith Fortune of Tilden, Neb., wife of the Rev. O.A. Fortune a former pastor of the M.E. Church of this place; Mrs. Ella Dubois of Yuma, Cal. and Mrs. Bessie Lindsey of Monett, Mo. who with her husband, Robert Lindsey, foreman on the Monett Daily Times, were among the relatives arriving shorty before Mr. Hall's death, or here for the funeral. The sons', Will Hall of Lawrence, Kansas, Arthur Hall of Boon, Iowa and Vernon Hall of the home, also were here.
Early in life Mr. Hall was converted and entered the Methodist Episcopal Church and was formerly a member of that church here but for the past seven years had been a valued and faithful member of the Church of the Nazarene. For two years and two days he had been confined to his bed following a stroke of paralysis but prior to that time had been among the most active of men in spite of being crippled by rheumatism.
His pastor and others closest to him and who knew him best rate him as a man of unusual worth whose passing is a distinct loss to his church and community.
