  • Notes
    • From FindaGrave:

      Age 85 years 6 months.

Archelaus Putnam (called "Jr." in his marriage record) was born in Sutton, Worcester County, MA, August 17, 1768, son of Archelaus and Sarah Putnam. [Franklin P. Rice, compiler; Vital Records for Sutton, Massachusetts, to the end of the year 1849, pg. 132.] He married Phebe Hicks 14 Mar 1792, in Sutton. [Sutton VR, pg. 281].

He died 9, February, 1854 in Sutton, per his gravestone. The Town of Sutton Vital Records say: "Archelaus Putnam, Feb 4, 1854; aged 85 y, 5 m, 22 d; married male; farmer; son of Archelaus & Sarah Putnam; of old age." [Massachusetts Vital Records, 1841– 1910; Vol. 86, pg. 170].

In "History of the Town of Sutton," describing the Putnam house in Center District No. 4, the author states: "Joshua and Warren [Marsh] conveyed it by deed dated Nov. 22, 1816, to Archelaus Putnam, who deeded one-half of said farm to his son Tyler, March 17, 1823. Mr. Archelaus Putnam, son of Archelaus, son of Edward, son of Deacon Edward, son of Thomas, lived on this place from 1816 until he died, February 9, 1854. He was a man of wealth, kind feeling, gentlemanly deportment, rather above medium size and very active. He was a farmer. He belonged to a class than whom there is none more noble, was engaged in a business than which there is none more honorable." [pg. 255]
