      Civil War Union Army Officer. He served as a 2nd Lieutenant in Company A, 20th Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry. He was killed during the repulse of Pickett's Charge on July 3, 1863, at the Battle of Gettysburg.

      He was the great-grandson of Revolutionary War patriot & Declaration of Independence signer Robert Treat Paine.
