- Thomas Edward "Ed" Shardlow passed away on August 20, 2009 in American Fork, Utah of causes incident to age. He has completed the mortal leg of his eternal journey which he always characterized as "a great adventure".
He was born April 10, 1926 in Cardston, Alberta, Canada, the son of William Ambrose Shardlow and Bella "Isie" Featch White.
Ed grew up in the border community of Coutts and actually attended high school in the United States while living in Canada. He served during World War II with the Royal Canadian Air Force Bomber Command in Europe. He graduated from the University of Montana in 1949 with a degree in Journalism; then moved to Los Angeles, California, where he worked in corporate communications.
Ed was married to Phyllis Ellen Isham in 1948 (later divorced) and they are the parents of five children: Leslie Ann (Donald) Peterson, Thomas Ernest, Sydney Lee (Bruce) Cline, Sarah Ellen, aka Sally, (Robert) Dinsmoor and Paul Jeffrey (Lynnette).
Ed joined the LDS Church in Glendale, California at the age of 38 and served as Elders Quorum President, counselor in a Bishopric, Stake Presidency, and on various High Councils. He also served for many years in the Mount Timpanogos Temple and served senior missions to Pinon, Arizona and the Nauvoo Temple.
In 1985, Ed married his beloved Paula Ihler Lindsay and in the process gained a second family of three children: Marlo L. (Brett) Hodge, Megan P. (Andrew) Clark, and McKay Carl (Alicia) Lindsay.
He was ever grateful for the opportunity to enjoy parenthood a second time and especially being Grandpa/PaPa to his grandchildren. We will miss Ed, but we know he is having a glorious reunion with his remarkable parents and his brothers Harry, William (Jock) and James Leslie. He is the last of his generation and we will not likely see his kind again.
Funeral Services will be held on Monday, August 24, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. in the Mount Mahogany Fifth Ward Chapel, 1541 North 1300 West, Pleasant Grove. A viewing will be held prior to the services on Monday at the Church from 9:30 - 10:45 a.m.
