| 82355 | WHITEFIELD, ME -- Kathleen Marie Graffam Hall, 83, of Whitefield passed away Friday, June 19, 2009, at Cove's Edge Nursing Home in Damariscotta. She was born in Whitefield on December 11, 1925, a daughter of George Sr. and Margaret Harrigan Graffam. Kay lived her entire life in Whitefield. She attended a little one-room schoolhouse down on the plains near her childhood home. Upon completion of grammar school, she attended and graduated from Bridge Academy in Dresden. After graduating, she taught school for a short time and worked as a clerk at the Woolworth store in Augusta. She and her husband, Billy, owned and operated a dairy farm on Townhouse Road for many years. Kay worked as a cook at the Whitefield School while also driving a milk route and helping on the farm. After they sold the farm, she worked at Gardiner General Hospital in housekeeping and for a short time at the Augusta State Hospital. She then went to work as the secretary of the Chelsea School, where she stayed for more than 20 years until her retirement. She enjoyed her time there and was very sad to leave. Kay had always been very involved in the lives of her children and grandchildren, attending countless sports activities and school programs. She always had a love for music, dancing, wallpapering, puzzles (both jigsaw and crossword), and baked-bean suppers. She was active in community affairs such as the Fire Department auxiliary, town meetings and she attended the Calvary Baptist Church. She was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 49 years, George William Hall III; and seven brothers and sisters, George Graffam, Jr., Ruth Roper, Robert Graffam, Miriam Humason, John Graffam, Paul Graffam and Mildred Hatch. Survivors include her daughter Dianne and husband Sheldon Bumps of China; her daughter Susan and husband Edward Karass of Whitefield; her son, George William IV and his wife, Mary Ann Hall, of Whitefield; sister, Margaret Chaney, of Alna; brother Kenneth Graffam, of California; six grandchildren, Randall and his wife, Mariah Bumps, Heather Bumps and her partner, Chris Cuevas, John and his wife, Tamara Karass, Anna Karass, George William Hall V and his wife, Laura, and Samuel Hall; three great-grandchildren, Chase Cuevas-Bumps, Garrett Bumps and Kathryn Bumps; plus numerous nieces, nephews and in-laws. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday, June 23, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner, where a funeral service will be held Wednesday, June 24, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Ronald Morrell officiating. Burial will follow in the Whitefield Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, any donations may be made to the Alzhiemer's Care Center, Gardiner, in care of the Office of Philanthropy, P.O. Box 828, Waterville, ME 04903-0828. | Graffam, Kathleen Marie (I15719)
